February 2003

January was a lovely month with several warm days that really had nothing to do with a typical January day. Here in Vancouver the snowdrops are already in full bloom and I actually saw a couple of rhododendron bushes in full color already too, which seemed impossible so early in the season. Perhaps spring really is already on its way.

I performed at the Cellar in early January with a stellar group of musicians that included Bill Coon, Chris Sigerson, Darren Radtke and Craig Scott. We played several tunes from my upcoming release "THE STATE OF BLISS". Thank you to the audience for being absolutely whisper still and allowing us to use every dynamic at our disposal. It really makes for a different kind of excitement to be able to fade into the whisper zone when a tune calls for it.

I have been busy working on music that I will perform with vocalist Denzal Sinclaire in a concert this April at The Vancouver East Cultural Centre in Vancouver. Denzal is a guest vocalist on my new CD and we had such fun singing duets that we decided to make an evening of it. We are developing a repertoire of duets that we will perform with the Bill Coon quartet at the concert. Tickets are already on sale for the event through Ticketmaster outlets. The date for the concert will be Thursday, April 10th. There will be a draw to win tickets for two to the concert plus dinner for two at O'Doul's Restaurant and Bar. The draw will take place right in O'Doul's which is located on Robson Street in Vancouver. I will keep you posted as to when the draw begins in next month's "Words".

Other plans on the horizon include a trip to Paris and Rome this March. This is something I am very excited about. I have been to Rome before and loved it and now I look forward to experiencing everything that Paris has to offer: the jazz of course, the architecture, the fashion, the art, the wine and anything else waiting there to be discovered.
