Home : Reviews : Pastiche (The Vancouver Sun) PasticheKarin Plato is a Vancouver singer through and through; one of her originals on PASTICHE (self-released) is entitled "People With Umbrellas." It's not the originals that catch the ear so much on this release as the songs written by others. She gives a heartfelt rendition of "Come Rain Or Come Shine" and makes "Black Coffee" swing hard. Plato has good range with clear diction and her phrasing indicates a firm rooting in the blues. This is not exclusively a jazz record, for some of the material gets a pop push. The Vancouver musicians sound good, with Dave Phyall a standout on Frank Loesser's "Never Will I Marry." The Vancouver Sun
